Depend On Our Diabetes Educators
Jeanne McMillan-Olson, Director of the Diabetes Education Program at United, and Vanoy
Smith, MD, of Physicians Care Family Medicine, work as a team to help people with diabetes. Who do you trust to help you with your diabetes? You probably answered, “my family doctor.” And who does your family doctor trust to help you with your diabetes? Local doctors depend on the Diabetes Education Program at United General to provide expert instruction and guidance to their patients.
“I refer to the program all the time,” says Vanoy Smith, MD, of Physicians Care Family Medicine in Sedro-Woolley, “not only my newly diagnosed patients, but also people who need a refresher in managing their diabetes.”
Through individual meetings and group classes, our Diabetes Educators can help you make smart decisions about food and exercise. They also share the latest information about monitoring your blood sugar.
“We study all the newest developments,” explains Jeanne McMillan-Olson, Director of the Diabetes Education Program at United, “because we’re focused solely on diabetes and helping people live better with it.”
Jeanne sites a recent development in blood sugar monitoring called GlycoMark, a new blood test that has received FDA approval. She is eager to explain the importance of the new test to patients and physicians who may not be aware of it.
“The Diabetes Education Program is a tremendous resource and convenience for me,” says Michael Dillard, MD, of Burlington Family Practice. “The educators are much more thorough than we could ever be in a doctor’s office setting. When I refer a patient to the program, I know they’re going to get a good understanding of everything they need to know about diabetes.”
By working together, physicians and diabetes educators can help prevent the complications that often occur when the disease is unchecked.
“We’re all on the same team,” says Jeanne, “and we want you to be a winner.”
