Explore local parks and trails with other parents/caregivers and their children. Enjoy the outdoors together, discovering the joys of our beautiful natural surroundings.

Family Treks is a FREE program for families with children 0-5 years of age. This program gives parents the opportunity to connect with other parents and share resources. Throughout the program, you will also receive additional resources to help build your confidence in getting outside and ultimately form a life-long relationship with nature.

Walking Series

This group moves at a slow hike speed while incorporating engaging kid-centered activities. The pace may be adjusted based on who shows up at each walk.

There are three walks in each series. You’re welcome to sign up for individual walks within a series, but we recommend participating in all three as it provides an opportunity to make connections with other families over time.

All walks in this series take place
on Tuesdays from 10-11:30 am

August 2: Edgewater – Scavenger Hunt

August 9: Lion’s Park – I-Spy

August 16: Northern State Recreation Area – Bark Rubbing

Wandering Series

This group will move slowly at a young child’s pace with an emphasis on exploration and discovery rather than mileage covered.

There are three walks in each series. You’re welcome to sign up for individual walks within a series, but we recommend participating in all three as it provides an opportunity to make connections with other families over time.

All walks in this series take place
on Tuesdays from 10-11:30 am

July 12 – Beach Patrol at Washington Park Loop: Wander the beach of Washington Park Loop in search of shore treasures. Discover shells, sea glass, colorful rocks, crabs, and even some small sea urchins and anemones.

July 19 – Wander Walk at Northern State: Hike to each wander walk sign to perform a fun nature activity. All signs are in both English and Spanish.

July 26 – Bird Watching at Padilla Bay Shore Trail: Use our binoculars to spot the many ducks, swallows, blue herons, and eagles roaming the estuary. If it is during low tide, the mudflats become exposed, and we may be able to spot small crabs and other invertebrates.
