What I love about my job: Something about the Skagit Valley has always enchanted me. The natural beauty, the agriculture, and the small towns scattered east to west. While it was a vague idea of the landscape and a desire to work in food systems that drew me to this job, it is the nuanced reality of the communities and connections I have built that keep me here. Seeing a student’s face light up when they try a kale flower for the first time still never fails to delight me.

Youth empowerment aims to improve quality of life, which can change an entire community.

What I love about my job: I enjoy helping people to stay healthy and fit. Exercise is medicine and I like helping folks deal with life’s challenges such as changing bodies and injuries through exercise and wellness. There is so much one can do to maintain good cardiovascular fitness, stress management and independent living by doing aerobic activity, strength training, balance training, stretching and yoga weekly. One can greatly reduce their need for medications and prevent costly surgeries just by exercising!

What I love about my job: I was drawn to this position because I wouldn’t be stuck behind a computer every day. The balance of collaboration in the office with direct service out at Concrete Farm to School makes every week very dynamic and fulfilling. I am energized by the communities I connect with on a daily basis: colleagues, volunteers, the school gardens, the pollinators, and especially the students.
