Resources

Concrete Resource Coalition is working to improve school performance, reduce youth delinquency, and address mental health through implementation of appropriate research-based substance use prevention strategies. Current strategies include:

Programs that improve family communication and harmony

Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth 10-14
The Incredible Years for parents with at least one child between 1 and 4

In addition, the Concrete Resource Coalition coordinates professional development trainings and community education events, as well as local environmental and media strategies that support our mission. We measure outcomes of our programs and strategies with Healthy Youth Survey results, community survey results, and data from pre and post-tests from participants in our youth and family programs. These results are shared at Coalition meetings and our annual key leader event to help guide decision-making and celebrate. The Concrete Resource Coalition (CRC) began as the Concrete Resource Group in 2006. The goal was to bring partners together to share and expand resources available to residents of East Skagit County and plan the annual Concrete Youth Activity Day. In 2013, CRC became a Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative Coalition and partnered with United General District 304 to employ a Coalition Coordinator. Together, the Coalition has achieved some amazing milestones and successes over the years, including:

17 years of promotion and/or running of Concrete Youth Activity Day, a free event and resource fair for youth and their families
10+ years of collaborative funding to support a Student Assistance Professional at Concrete middle/high school
Funding a youth prevention club, Concrete Prevention Posse, since 2015
Advocating for the passage of a no vaping/smoking ordinance at Concrete town parks in 2017
Helping to secure funding to bring a Boys and Girls Club in 2018
Updating disciplinary policies at Concrete middle/high school around substance use 2018-2021

About the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI)

Coalitions have proven to be an effective organizing force for bringing evidence-based policies and programs to empower local communities for positive change. In Washington, CPWI is a partnership of state agencies, counties, schools, and local prevention Coalitions supporting communities in preventing alcohol and other drug use and its negative consequences. CPWI priorities include reducing underage drinking, marijuana use, and opioid misuse/abuse among middle and high school aged youth. CPWI provides community Coalitions with funding and training, as well as technical assistance for coordination, assessment, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of prevention services needed in their communities. This support helps communities build on their past successes and better measure how well prevention programs are meeting goals.

All are welcome to join our meetings and activities! We know our community has many strengths, which includes the caring and diverse individuals who live, work, learn, recreate, worship, and spend time in Eastern Skagit County.
